Health and Disability Support Groups and Contacts Yes Hospital and or home visits. (Time by arrangement to suit both parties. Advocacy when dealing with Govt Dept and health service providers. Support on request by those who need support at any appointment.
Community Organisations Yes We can assist with transport to various appointments, shopping trips, luncheon outings and other cultural trips. Advanced notice is appreciated. Wheelchairs and mobility scooters available for hire at a small fee.
Fitness and Recreation Yes Tai Chi class, 11am Tuesday mornings. Indoor bowls on Tuesday afternoons. "Sit and be Fit" class on a Wednesday, guest speakers, craft making fun or just sit and enjoy the company of others. (More details further down in the page)
Kaumatua Services Yes We can refer people to the appropriate service.

What's New at Age Concern Flaxmere in september

Dates to Remember:

·   Age Concern Awareness Week 25 Sep—3 Oct

· International Day of the Older Person—1 Oct

· Carer Wellbeing and Self-Help—4 week course. Monday 4th Oct-1st Nov 2010,  All Saints Church octagon room, 23 Puketapu Rd, Taradale, 10—12 noon. $50 fee. Enrolment is essential since spaces are limited. Contact Ingrid at Caring for Carers HB on 877 8193 ext. 730, 0508 DO CARE. Or email info@caringforcarersec.co.nz.

· MEN CAN COOK—Free cooking classes for men with a professional Chef (Chef Gerard Flaschner). Course goes for 3 weeks and is free, all you need to take is the ingredients. Held at St Mary’s Church, Osier Rd, Taradale. Monday 6th Sep—11th Oct 2010, 10—1pm. Enroll now as spaces are limited! Call Ingrid Bryant on 877-8193 ext. 730.

· $7 Lunch—29th September at the Western Suburbs Rugby Club.  All elderly in the community are welcome.

· Kidnappers Country Club—1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month, held at the Scout Hall, Henderson.  If you enjoy singing along with country music on the Karaoke then this is the place for you! All are welcome to join.

· Living a Healthy Life With a Chronic Condition Management Course—Six week course in Napier at the Oasis Community Centre, on Thursdays from 2 – 4.30pm, and hopefully starting at the end of October.

This internationally recognized course is well proven in New Zealand to enhance the quality of life for people with ANY ongoing health problem. The cost is $50.00

· There are still some outstanding membership subscriptions that need to be paid.  If you’re one of these people please come and see us at 30 Swansea Rd, up behind the Waterworld Swimming Pools in Flaxmere, or you can post them to Age Concern Flaxmere, P.O. Box 15066.

· Tai Chi classes have started. We’re now into the third week since we’ve started running Tai Chi.  It’s held on Tuesdays at the Western Suburbs Rugby Club from 11-11.45am. Come along and join in the fun while keeping fit at the same time!  Cost is $3 per session.
